Overview:

Trekking from Khevsureti to Tusheti is the one of the most breathtaking journeys in Geprgia.

Journey takes us through Greater Caucasus mountains, alpine meadows, deep valleys ,snow-covered peaks and medieval villages with magnificent towers.

Beginning from medival castle villages Shatili and Mutso , crossing Atsunta Pass (3450 masl) and descend into another mountiain region Tusheti .

Important information

  • Shatili (historical castle) is a historic highland village in Georgia, near the border with Chechnya. It is located on the northern slope of the Great Caucasus mountains, in the historical Georgian province of Upper Khevsureti, which is now part of the modern-day region of Mtskheta-Mtianeti.
  • Anatori is the village in Khevsureti, about 3 km from Shatili, located at the confluence of the Arghuni and Mutsostsqali rivers. According to historical scripts villagers were externinated by infection in XVIII century.Infected anatorians were walking themselves to the vaults, because there was no one remained to lead them and bury. Inside the tomb there are racks on the walls with several tiers. Several dozen people were buried in the vaults. Formerly the bones were folded on the floor under the lower tier. After archaeological excavation of the tombs a wooden utensils, jewelry, coins and arrowheads were found. 
  • Mutso ( historical castle) is a small village in Georgia. One of the former strongholds of the historic Georgian province of Khevsureti (now part of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region), it is located on a rocky mountain (1880 m) on the right bank of the Andakistskali river.
  • Atsunthi Pass - Pass in Georgia, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti regions, on the border of Dusheti and Akhmeta municipalities. It is located at the Atsunti ridge, 3431 m above sea level. Crossings from Tusheti (Pirikita and Tusheti Alazani Gorges) in Khevsureti.
  • Girevi is located in the  hictorical region of Tusheti, 50km from the village Omalo, on the left bank of the Alazani river. Girevi is on the territory of Tusheti national Park, and is under the control of The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia.Monuments located in Girevi are the tower and the fortress-house.
  • Parsma is a central village of  Pirikita community. Parsma ruins are situated in Tusheti, in hostorica Piriqita  community. The village is 40km away from village Omalo, on the left bank of Alazani. There is icon of St. Teodore in Parsma, a cult of the monument in the south-east of Parsma. It was built late middle ages. The tower is rectangular (5.3X4.8m), built dry with slates.
  • Chesho is a village in historical region of Tusheti, 25-26 km from Omalo village, on the left bank of the Pirikita Alazani river, approximately 150m. from the bank.
    Notable monuments are: the monument of three towers - upper, middle, lower towers, tower of Abaloidze, south-western tower.
  • The village of Kvavlo is located in the Akhmeta municipality in the Kakheti region of Georgia in the historical part of Tusheti, 7-8 kilometers from the village Omalo. On the left bank of the river Pirikita Alazani, on the hill, 500 meters above the the river bank.The monuments belonging to Kvavlo: 1. The tower - is located at the edge of the village, in the north, on the rock. The tower is five-story, narrowing in the upper side, built with a shale. The building is collapsed. 2. The boiler house in the middle of the village, built with a shale. It was used as brewery. 3. The castle-house is built with shale, there are four floors. The building has a dihedral roof.Kvavlo is located in Tusheti protected landscape and is administered by Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Georgia.
  • Dartlo village is situated 2,000 meters above sea level by the Alazani River, on the northern slope of the Great Caucasus Mountains. It is distinguished by its vernacular architecture with dry masonry and stone-slated roofs, where residents have sustained their ancestors’ culture and pattern of life.
  • Omalo is a principal village in the historical region of Tusheti, Georgia. Administratively, it is part of the Akhmeta District in Kakheti. It lies between the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range and the Pirikita Range of Tusheti. Due to Omalo‘s high mountain location on the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range and the absence of well-maintained roads, it is largely isolated from the rest of Georgia for most of the year. The only access road is through the Abano pass at 2,850 metres (9,350 ft).
  • Keselo Fortress  is located in Akhmeta municipality, north of village Omalo, on the rocky hills, belongs to the XVIII century. There are three rectangular towers and fragments of the fence. All three towers were built of shale stones. The towers are damaged: the roof, ceiling between floors, and walls of the upper floors of both towers.
  • Shenako village located on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus, in the historical-geographical area of Tusheti, some 100 km northeast of the Municipal center of Akhmeta, close to the border with Dagestan, Russia. Shenako is one of the few still populated villages in highland Tusheti, but is only accessible by land through a 4WD. The village is overlooked by Mount Diklo and contains a series of buildings of Georgian folk architecture and the old church of the Holy Trinity.
  • Village Diklo is located in Tusheti, Kakhetian Akhmeta Municipality, on the Alazani gorge at 2140 m.a.s.l. There is an old shrine and a fortress in Diklo. The village is covered with pinewood, where you can meet rare ibex and capra. Nearby the village there are mineral sulfur springs which are quite interesting for tourists.
  • Abano Pass is a mountain pass located in Georgia. At 2,950 metres (9,680 ft), it is the highest drivable mountain pass in the Caucasus.It is located in the Central Part of the Great Caucasus Mountains and connects two regions of Georgia: Kakheti on the south and Tusheti on the north. Due to high altitude and snowy winters the pass is closed from mid-October till mid-April (depending on snow amount and road conditions). The damaged road surface allows only 4x4 cars to go through.

 

Schedule of the tour

1 Day: Tbilisi -Shatili - Mutso - Ardoti

 Transportation to Shatili, then to Mutso and Ardoti. Walk in these villages.

Overnight in tents

 2 Day: Khidotani Ringe - Atsunta pass

 Trekking to Khidotani Ringe

Overnight in tents

 3  Day: Atsunta pass – Camp side Kvakhidi

 Trekking over the pass.

Overnight in tents

 4 Day : Kvakhidi-Parsma

 5 Day: Chesho –Dartlo– Kvavlo -Omalo

Driving  to Dartlo with 4X4 SUV

hike in Kvavlo . Overnight at a guesthouse in Omalo

 6  Day: Keselo towers-- Shenako - Diklo

Walk to Keselo towers.

Driving to Shenako and Diklo. Walk in these villages.

Return back to Omalo and overnight at a guesthouse.

 7 Day: Transfer to Tbilisi

Keep in mind!

In the case of force majeure (landslides, avalanches, floods, etc.), we act in accordance with the safety standards that will be dictated by authorized state institutions. Also, we have the right to make changes to the tour. If these changes are unacceptable for you, you will receive 80% of the amount paid.

 

Cancellation

a) In case of notification of cancellation of the reservation at least 7 days prior to the beginning of the tour, only 80% of the canceled tour price will be returned to the tourist.

b) In case of notification of cancellation of the reservation at least 4 days before the start of the tour, only 50% of the cost of the canceled tour will be returned to the tourist.

c) In case of notification of cancellation of the reservation at least 2 days before the start of the tour, only 20% of the cost of the canceled tour will be returned to the tourist.

d) In case of notification of cancellation of the reservation 48 hours prior to the beginning of the tour, the cost of the tour will not be refunded to the tourist.
